About This Site
Welcome to Holy Innocent’s Catholic Church’s web site. We hope you find it an informative and frequently updated site for everything going on at Holy Innocents specifically and the Catholic Church in general.
This site, like most on the Internet, is about communication within the parish and community. While many parish sites across faiths tend to be static and maintained by a technology leader or commitee, this site is an experiment in parish participation. That means any member of the parish in good standing as determined by Gail (the ‘church lady’) can contribute. The goal being a fun and informative site that encourages people to return it, and eventually the church.
One primary measure of success would be if this is the first site you go to after logging into your computer in the morning.
Please take special note that while this site will always strive for excellence, it’s not expected to be perfect. Indeed, imperfect, contradictory, or incorrect information may be posted. It’s then up to the parish to fix or accept it. This site is about communication, not perfection. If an image is off a little, that’s OK, as long as the message is communicated. This is a guiding principle that must be used to solve challenges.
The site premiered with a blog (web log) and ministry scheduling system as foundational communication mechanisms. Shortly we’ll add a parish calendar and gallery.
Per Wikipedia :
a blog is a web site with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.
Typically, a blog is maintained by one person, but this one is maintained by the parish. For now, the blog is open to anyone in good standing with the parish to write about anything relating to the church. Anyone can publish something as simple as an interesting article found on another site to the challenges of running the finance committee to an article describing your witness of faith.
The scheduling system is a new piece of software that’s designed to simplify the creation and publication of the ministry schedules. It tracks all the services and required ministers, automatically schedules ministers for future services based on availablity, scheduling preferences, and time since last served. Future releases will include email notifications and self maintenance of availability. More can be found here.
