Greetings, the sun is shining!

1. Annual Catholic Appeal: Thank you to all who have responded to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal which supports over sixty programs in our Archdiocese including helping kids go to CYO summer camp, Catholic Community Services, our retired sisters and priests, seminarians and deacon candidates: to mention a few.

We are half-way to our participation goal (and every response counts whether or not you can make a financial pledge) and about 70% of our financial goal of $52,000. Every amount given over goal will be returned to the parish. Last year, over-goal amounts went toward finishing the kitchen. This year we want to work on finishing the hall by putting in the ceiling.

We will be sending reminder letters to anyone we haven’t heard from yet, so please turn in your pledge envelope this Sunday or go on-line: https://www.seattlearchdiocese.org/Stewardship/ACA/Donate.aspx

2. Pantry items needed: canned fruit, tuna, salad dressings.

3. Safe Environment: We will be having two Safe Environment classes here at Holy Innocents on Sunday, May 20.

The first class offered is Called to Protect for Ministries and is designed to teach participants how to recognize the signs of abuse, how to respond to suspected abuse, and how to keep our ministries, programs and schools safe. Recommended for all volunteers who have contact with children or vulnerable adults. The class starts at 3 pm. Please register on line at: http://seattle.setanet.org/classes.php

The second training offered at 6 pm on the 20th is Called to Protect for Parents and Families. This is designed for parents, families, and all interested adults in learning how to protect children and teach them to keep themselves safe. You can register with Jennie at jennie@holyinn.org or go on line: http://seattle.setanet.org/classes.php

Greetings

1. The amplifier for our portable sound system is missing. Does anyone know anything about that?

2. This Sunday: Explorers 68 for our kids in grades 6-8, starting at 6 pm in the hall.

3. Our Food Pantry: we are no longer dividing dish or laundry detergent so we no longer need the plastic water bottles or “cottage cheese size” containers. Instead we are just giving out the dish or laundry detergent every 5 or 6 weeks.

4. Pantry needs: we need shampoo (apparently Rite Aid has a good price right now) and deodorant.

5. Annual Catholic Appeal: pledge on-line: https://www.seattlearchdiocese.org/Stewardship/ACA/Donate.aspx

Greetings!
What a grand and glorious Holy Week we had here at Holy Innocents:
thank you to all who participated and worked hard to make each liturgy
beautiful and created a prayerful environment.

1. St. Vincent de Paul Bundle Sunday is coming up: April 28 & 29th.
Start collecting good, clean reuseable things you no longer need or use
that someone else could benefit from.
High School students: helping the SVdP volunteers loading the truck is
a great way to get some community service hours for school. Call the
office if you are interested.

2. Rice Bowls: remember to bring your Rice Bowls back to church this
Sunday so we can get your donations counted and sent in to help with
local and national hunger programs.

3. Explorers68: This Sunday from 6-8 pm for youth in grades 6-8.

4. Next Wednesday, April 18, we will have a Healing Mass (beginning at
6:45 pm) sponsored by the Western Washington Catholic Charismatic
Renewal office. We will not have the regular parish Wednesday evening
Mass.

1. The Easter Vigil begins tonight at 8:30 pm.

At sunset on Holy Saturday, the third day, the Church explodes in joy and celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection. Having celebrated the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services together, we come together again at the Easter Vigil, to complete the message of our faith — the assurance that death and sin are conquered.

The Vigil begins outside with the Service of Light. All gather around the new fire which is blessed, then the new Paschal Candle(Easter Candle) — which becomes the symbol for us of Christ resurrected — is marked with a cross the Greek letters alpha and omega, and the wounds of Jesus, and blessed.

Then the candle is carried in procession into the dark church, the priest or deacon stopping three times to sing “The light of Christ” as the people respond “Thanks be to God.” All those in the church light their own candles from the Easter candle. The church fills up with light, and the Exsultet, the Easter Proclamation is sung.

After the Exsultet, all candles but the Easter Candle are extinguished and we listen to the readings proclaiming the marvelous story of our salvation — seven readings, from the creation in Genesis through the Old Testament into the New. The Gloria is sung, and again the church is filled and joy as bells are rung in celebration. The Gospel of the Vigil tells us Mark’s version of the Resurrection.

Following the Liturgy of the Word, comes the Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation. We call on the saints in our most joyous litany and bless the new waters of the baptismal font with the Easter Candle; the Elect profess their faith, and one by one are baptized, clothed in white garments, and given a lighted candle. We relight our candles and renew our own baptismal promises. Then all are sprinkled with the new waters of the font. Next, the candidates for full communion are received, and all the Neophytes — the newly baptized and newly received — are confirmed with a laying on of hands and anointing with the sacred chrism oil.

Then, through the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the whole church is called to the table that the Lord has prepared for his people through his death and resurrection. The neophytes receive their first Holy Communion, and in a sense we do too, for we have been renewed with them through the entire Triduum celebration.

2. Sunday Easter morning Masses are at 8 am and 10:30 am.
