MINISTRIES
There are many ways you can, as a parishioner, contribute to our faith community. By giving your time, you help build a stonger community. If you are interesting in donating your time and serving others in one of our ongoing ministries, please contact Gail Dimock, pastoral associate.
Altar Servers
We have a continuing need for altar servers, both children and adults, to assist at the celebration of Mass. We provide altar server training several times a year. It is a simple and enjoyable class that we try to provide at a time convenient to the participants. If you would like to be an altar server, or to sign up for the next class for altar server training, please contact the office.
Coffee Hour
We are always on the lookout for people who can help set-up coffee hour. We have a coffee hour following each Mass on Sunday. People usually sign up for one coffee hour per month and most volunteers arrive about half an hour early for Mass so that they can tidy, make coffee, and set out the snacks. There is usually a selection of food available in the kitchen, although many volunteers enjoy bringing their own treats from home to share with their friends. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please contact the office.
Eucharistic Ministers
Serving as a eucharistic minister is an important function for the celebration of Mass. We hold training for new, or returning eucharistic ministers several times each year. We provide a schedule for this ministry that shares this service among the eucharistic ministers who are available for each Mass. Once you have been trained, you can volunteer to serve at your regular Mass. We always need more eucharistic ministers. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please contact the office.
Lectors
Lectors serve the important function of proclaiming God’s word at Mass. Lectors are usually scheduled for the first reading or for the second reading and prayers of the faithful for each Mass. New lectors participate in a brief training class and are given a Lector Workbook as a resource to help them prepare the reading for which they are scheduled. If you are interested in this ministry of sharing God’s word, please contact the office.
Music Ministry
Music is a very important part of the Holy Innocents community. In addition to providing a choir and music for Mass, there are other opportunities to share your enjoyment of music with the community. If you are interested in participating in this ministry of music, please contact the office.
Sacristans
Sacristans are the “behind the scenes” volunteers for every Mass at Holy Innocents. Sacristans set up for Mass, put out the books, ensure all the ministers scheduled arrive and check-in — or find a substitute for absent ministers. Sacristans put out the bread and wine, request families to bring up the gifts, help with communion and then cleanse and put away the vessels after Mass. Sacristans also care for the sacristy, the worship space, the books and vessels. It is a ministry for those who love the details of liturgy.
If you are interested in helping us to care for the church in this ministry, please contact the office.
