First Reconciliation and First Eucharist 2018-2019
Parent/child Orientation Meeting Monday September 24 in the church 6:45 pm — 8:15 pm
All children who have been baptized Roman Catholic and are at least 7 years old are invited to prepare to receive these two important sacraments, Reconciliation and Eucharist. The parish family of Holy Innocent’s rejoices with you, as you and your child reflect on a decision about celebrating these sacraments for the first time.
This will be a special time in your lives, a special time for your child with their peers, and a special time in the life of our faith community. We want to work with you in making this a meaningful process.
Our goal is to support you as the primary educator of your child’s faith. Thus, the preparation consists of a combination of work done at home or in small groups and participation in our Sunday morning regular elementary religious education called F.U.T.U.R.E (Families United together Undertaking Religious Education) The group meets most Sundays between October through May. In addition, you will be working through a workbook at home with your child that consists of six chapters. Once your workbook is finished for either preparation for First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, you will meet with a Sacramental Ambassador to go over the workbook and check-in with your child to make sure he or she understands the basic theology of each sacrament and how to receive it. After this meeting, families are free to schedule their child’s first Reconciliation or First Eucharist.
